Tokyo (eDaily Pakistan) - Ken Shimura, the veteran Japanese comedian, died due to novel coronavirus infection. He was 70. Shimura, one of the best-known comedians with a career dating back to the early 1970s in Japan, had been hospitalized after developing fever an sever pneumonia on March 20.
He tested positive for the virus on March 23 and became the first entertainment actor to announce an infection.
There are 1866 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Japan while 54 people have died so far. As many as 424 patients have recovered while 56 are in critical state.
Worldwide coronavirus cases have surged to 722,196 with 33,976 deaths since the infectious disease erupted in China and then spread to 199 countries. More than 150,000 patients have recuperated from the disease.
